Technology can be highly effective in supporting students with disabilities to access instruction that may have otherwise been unattainable. More specifically, assistive technology (AT) improves students’ functioning through the use of devices and services (Gargiulo & Bouck, 2021). AT helps individuals access information and communication and essential activities of daily living and includes supports such as hearing aids, mobility devices, voice-output devices, and mechanisms to control lighting, among other pieces of equipment that may be low or high technology (Bruce et al., 2024). However, because of a lack of preparation, general and special education teachers often struggle with understanding how to identify and implement appropriate AT supports for their students (Park et al., 2024).
